How to add a Grok Bot template
Adding someone else's template takes about a minute. Here is the official flow, step by step.
- Open the template's public share link on x.ai (it looks like x.ai/bot/...). Every listing on Grok Bot Index links to it.
- Read the preview, then choose Add to Grok Bot. This accepts the third-party bot terms for templates made by other users.
- Finish in the Grok Bot app. It shows the template's context and integrations so you can check them, then choose Add Bot.
- You now have your own independent copy. Reinstall any plugins it asks for and give it any API keys or setup it needs.
Good to know
- Shared templates are made by other users. Adding one accepts the third-party bot terms, so read the preview first.
- Public templates show their identity, description, skills and routines on the x.ai preview page.
Questions
Do I need the Grok Bot app to add a template?
Yes. The official docs say the recipient opens the preview on x.ai and needs the Grok Bot app to finish adding it.
Does adding a template give me the creator's data?
No. The docs say adding a shared Bot creates a copy on your account and does not give you the creator's computer, logins or conversation history.
Why does my copy need setup?
A template is a recipe, not a clone. The official guide says plugins may need reinstalling, and custom MCP servers, scripts or code are not included.
Why can't I open some template links?
A Team-only link opens only for members of that team. Public links open for anyone.
